Send an existing-report request to Laguna Beach Records

For a Laguna Beach Police Department report copy, email [email protected] or contact the department at 949-497-0701. The police address is 505 Forest Avenue, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. The city’s police-report page publishes a $16 copy charge. Ask Records to identify the applicable charge and release method for the document you actually need.

Choose an existing incident report, collision report, arrest report or named supplement. An arrest-log entry can help locate an event, but it is not the complete narrative or proof of a criminal conviction. The city publishes dated arrest logs separately. Keep the event date and any incident or case number so Records can distinguish the request from a general inquiry about a person.

Give Records enough detail and explain any access basis

Include the report number if available, approximate date and time, location, names of involved parties, the type of report and your contact information. If you are requesting a supplement, photograph or another distinct item, name it separately. Say whether you want electronic delivery or pickup, and ask what identification or authorization applies to your relationship to the event.

Laguna Beach’s public-records instructions cover existing, non-exempt records in the city’s possession or control. They do not require staff to create a new report, research an answer, or compile data that do not already exist. Phrase the request around the record: identify the event and document rather than asking Records to explain who was legally at fault.

A request does not guarantee an unredacted investigative file. Ask which portions can be released and the basis for any withholding. If a particular authorization or court process is required, obtain the department’s instructions before supplying sensitive supporting papers. A broader public-records request can be made through the city’s Public Records Request Portal linked on its records-request page.

Verify the fee category and pickup window

The police service page’s $16 figure is a published report-copy price, not a verified all-format quote for photos, video or every public-records request. The finance page lists a newer adopted May 12, 2026 master fee schedule, but its linked file could not be independently checked for the report category here. Ask for the current category and total before payment.

Official pages conflict about the counter. The report page lists Monday–Thursday and alternate Friday requests from 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m., and also says reports can be obtained daily from 7 a.m.–5 p.m. The Records Bureau page instead gives 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. daily. Call Records to confirm when your approved copy can actually be collected; do not choose one schedule by assumption.

If an insurer, court or other recipient requires certification or a particular delivery form, tell Records before ordering. The reviewed police pages do not publish a certification charge or a report-specific guaranteed completion time. Confirm whether the requested form is available, whether identification must be shown at pickup, and how payment will be accepted.

The public-records response deadline is not a delivery promise

The city says it reviews and responds to document requests within ten days to determine whether responsive records are disclosable. It may take fourteen additional days in qualifying situations and may release records in batches. After determining that disclosable records exist, the City Clerk’s office provides the expected production timing. Keep the acknowledgement and request number for follow-up.

If the response does not address a requested supplement or date range, identify that omission in a reply rather than submitting an indistinguishable duplicate. For an apparent error in the report itself, give Records the report number and exact page or statement and ask for the review or supplemental-report procedure. Preserve the issued copy while the question is resolved.

New reporting and court outcomes require separate steps

The city’s police-report page currently says online reporting is unavailable and directs new reports to 949-497-0701, extension 2. Emergencies go to 911. An email requesting a copy is not the published route for reporting a new emergency or creating an incident report.

Records Bureau reviews reports and forwards cases through the court process; the city identifies the Orange County District Attorney at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach for department cases. A police narrative does not establish whether charges were later filed, dismissed or decided. If your question is the prosecution outcome, obtain the court case reference and request the disposition from that court.
